This session, entitled Tissue Recovery Essentials, covers critical techniques and best practices for recovering musculoskeletal and skin tissues, providing you with the foundational knowledge needed for excellence in the field. The Back to Basics Mini-Series is an informative overview of key concepts all along the tissue donation continuum with a focus on answering the question, “why do we do what we do?”
Target Audience: This series is designed for the new tissue bank professional learning the foundations of the industry as well as the experienced tissue banking veteran wanting a refresher in key concepts.

Lesly Gatton is a Recovery Partner Director at Solvita. Prior to this role, she served as the National Trainer for tissue recovery. She is a Certified Tissue Banking Specialist and has more than 10 years of experience in tissue banking. Lesly earned her Master of Science degrees in Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Louisville School Of Medicine and attended Wake Forest University for her undergraduate education. She is committed to improving the quality of tissue recoveries and maximizing tissue donors’ gifts to improve and save the lives of recipients.
Katie Gunning
Manager, Tissue Procurement
Mid-America Transplant Services DBA Mid-America Transplant
Katie Gunning is the Manager of Tissue Procurement for Mid America Transplant. She has been with MAT for the past 12 years, 10 of which she was a front-line member on the tissue team. Katie has held the role of tissue ocular procurement coordinator, Tissue team lead and Tissue Clinical Trainer. Prior to MAT, Katie was an Athletic Trainer for many athletic teams around Missouri and was the first responder on scene for injuries that may occur. This is where her anatomy skills proved to be extremely beneficial when she moved into tissue recovery. Katie has a BS in Athletic training, a MS in healthcare management and a certificate in surgical technology.
