Sepsis Screening: Defining Concepts and Indicators

This training module provides participants with a high-level review of possible indicators and presentations of sepsis. Each presentation is available on-demand, and participants can complete programs at their own pace. Each session focuses on a specific area of consideration. Upon completing the presentations, participants will complete a quiz and earn CEUs and a certificate of completion. This course is FREE to all AATB members.
Rick M. Kolovich, MSN, RN, CCTC, CTBS

Infinite Legacy
Rick Kolovich is an Army Veteran with forty years of leadership experience in organ, eye, and tissue donation. He was the former Director of the Army/Navy Transplant Program and held clinical leadership positions at the Washington Regional Transplant Consortium, Oklahoma's Organ Sharing Network, and the Living Legacy Foundation.
Rick earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nursing from Kent State University and is also a certified clinical transplant coordinator, tissue banking specialist and received his certificate in the “Art of Leadership for Transplant Professionals” from the Wharton and Fox Schools of Business in 2018.
Rick is currently the Director of Tissue at the newly merged OPO (Infinite Legacy), formally, (the Washington Regional Transplant Community and the Living Legacy Foundation).
Walter Recker, MBA, CST, CTBS
Walter began working with LifeCell in 2003. He currently holds the position of Sr. Regional Field Manager. In this capacity, Walter works with a number of tissue banks and organ procurement organizations throughout the Central and Southern United States. He is responsible for the coordination of tissue procurement, on-site training, technical and material support, and manages and oversees the LifeCell National on Call Coordinators. Walter is a Certified Surgical Technologist, Certified Tissue Banking Specialist, and an active member of the American Association of Tissue Banks.
Joshua Brennan, CTBS

Josh Brennan spent six years as an EMS professional and was an educator for the Red Cross. Josh has been with New England Donor Services since 2008 in various roles in the Tissue Operations Department. He is currently the Director of Tissue Operations. He has published three abstract articles with the American Association of Tissue Banks and was part of the creative development team for the Hopes Heroes - Donor Family Program. He has been invited to speak at multiple workshops/conferences/webinars on various topics, including Electronic Tissue Authorization, Call Center Scheduling, Algorithmic Tissue Screening, Electronic Tissue Allocation, DRAI competency & training, and Grief Concepts. Josh is currently serving on the AATB Education Committee and was the project co-manager on the development of the Sepsis Education Online Learning Tool for the RADE Council.
Erik Mitchell, MD
Dr. Mitchell completed his undergraduate degree at Cornell University and went on to earn his Medical Doctorate at S.U.N.Y. Upstate Medical where he then completed a residency in anatomic pathology. Dr. Mitchell completed his fellowship in forensic pathology and became a board-certified anatomic, clinical, and forensic pathologist.
Throughout his career, Dr. Mitchell functioned as a medical examiner and forensic pathologist in North Carolina, Florida, New York, Kansas, and Wisconsin before leaving the medicolegal role to become a staff pathologist at CryoLife in 2019.
Dr. Mitchell has also instructed many courses, lead research teams, functioned in committees and authored multiple publications.
Kim A. Collins, MD, FCAP
Forensic Pathologist, Fulton County ME, Medical Director
Dr. Collins serves as a forensic pathologist with Newberry Pathology Associates and is a Medical Director for SharingHope SC, the Organ and Tissue Donation Services for South Carolina. After receiving her BS in microbiology, magna cum laude Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Georgia, Athens, Dr. Collins earned her MD from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta. Following medical school, Dr. Collins completed an anatomic and clinical pathology residency at Wake Forest University/Bowman Gray School of Medicine. After residency, she completed a forensic fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina where she remained on faculty as a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Director of Forensic and Autopsy Pathology, and Chief Medical Examiner. Dr. Collins is a Diplomat of the American Board of Pathology, board-certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology, and forensic pathology. She is a member of the College of American Pathologists and past Chair of the Autopsy Committee. She is past President of the South Carolina Society of Pathologists, and past Chair for the Pathology/Biology Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. She serves on the Board of Directors and is past-President for the National Association of Medical Examiners.
