Tissue Authorization in a New Normal (Group)

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted almost every facet of life, including how we approach for tissue authorization. This session speaks to the ways in which we can acknowledge the new struggles families are facing, including not being able to be present in the hospital and stressors with funeral services during COVID-19, and how the pandemic may be impacting our organization's authorization rates.

New England Donor Services

Pam began her career at New England Donor Services (NEDS) in June of 1989 as a donation coordinator, coming to this position with ten years of transplant nursing experience in Boston.  At NEDS, she has worked as the Education Specialist/Hospital Development Coordinator, donor family liaison, Director of Tissue Operations and Aftercare Services.    In July of 2015, she took on the role of Sr. Director Tissue Donation.   In this roles see oversees she acts as a performance coach for Tissue Operations Center staff who obtain authorization/disclosure for tissue donation as well as a mentor and coach for new managers and directors in Tissue Donation Services. Pam is a faculty member for the Gift of Life Institute with a focus on tissue authorization.    Pam’s work with donor families has been recognized with the Musculoskeletal Foundation Donor Care Award as well her work in tissue donation with the American Association of Tissue Banks Jeanne C. Mowe distinguished Service Award.

Lindsey M. Werts, LSW, CTBS

Lindsey has worked in the tissue industry for over five years and is a Certified Tissue Bank Specialist. During this time, she has worked in the referral center, family services, and aftercare areas focusing on employee development and family conversations. In her current role, she focuses on training tissue authorization. She has been a licensed social worker in Ohio for the last eight years and enjoys incorporating this background into quality care for donor families.
